Carrousel of Nations

The MultiCultural Council of Windsor and Essex County (www.themcc.com) whose Mission is to promote and encourage a harmonious society in Windsor and Essex County that is multi-racial, multi-ethnic, and multi-faith, and to work toward the social equality of all cultures, host an annual Carrousel of Nations. Participants of the festival have an opportunity to experience multiculturalism at some 20 sites throughout the city, with ethnic food, displays and entertainment -- all free.

The "Ukraina" Ensemble of the Ukrainian School of Arts had the privilege of performing at the Ukrainian Village (hosted at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Cultural Center, 2000 Tecumseh Road East, Windosr) for two consecutive years 2000 and 2001.

Performances (dance, music and song in both Ukrainian and English) also included the Windsor Barvinok Dance Ensemble and music by "Zabava" of Sudbury, Ontario. Over 75 performers participated varying in age from 6 and up. The Master of Ceremonies warmly and graciously greeted all visitors and invited them to participate in all events.

Below are exerpts from the letter of invitation for the ensemble's repeat performances. The letter, from Glen Girard, Chairman of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Village was gracious and heartwarming and read as follows:

"We look forward to the Ukraina Dance Ensemble returning as our featured entertainment at this year's Festival....."

"As you are aware, our Ukrainian Village is a famiy-orientated Festival with an excellent reputation as a safe, fun-filled venue that attracts crowds of over 1,200 for each show on our outdoor covered stage. We have been voted as Carrousel Best Village for the second straight year and proudly display these awards. One of the reasons for our outstanding reputation is the professionalism of Ukraina, and that is why we are so pleased that the Dance Ensemble is returning."

"..... Please pass on to all your wonderful performers how pleased we were with last year's Festival and that we look forward to a great festival this year."
